It is incredibly frustrating when you want to use the shower in your home but you find pooling water in your shower. The pooling water in your shower is most probably caused by a blocked drain. It is very annoying and irritating as it will disturb your everyday activities. Often time blocked shower drain is caused by a build-up of hair, shampoo scum, soap scum and dirt that sticks to the wall of the pipe. Even worse, the blocked drain could be due to tree roots that grow into small cracks in your plumbing pipes.

If you notice a blocked shower drain in your home, here are some ways to fix it.

Pour Boiling Water

Pouring boiling water down your drain will help rinse and clean hair or grease that has built up inside your pipes and unblock the drain. However, although hot water could be useful, it will not work if the blocked is much deeper underground.

Baking Soda & Vinegar

Another DIY trick that many people are not aware of is to mix a ⅓ cup of baking soda with a ⅓ cup of vinegar. When it starts to fizz, you could pour it down the drain. The chemical reaction of this combination could help wash away blocked drain caused by hair, grease and soap scum inside your pipe. Once you have poured it down, leave it for 30 minutes before pouring another cup of boiling water.

Manual Scraping

This is one of those DIY tricks that most people would not consider. Sometimes, blocked drain requires us to get down and dirty, to do this, take the drain cover off and use a flashlight to have a better view of your drain. Once you have located the source of the blockage, grab a pair of rubber gloves to keep your hands clean and manually scrape the hair, grease, and scum off the pipe walls.
